Tuckombil Barn
Our clients for this project were looking for a large, authentic aisled timber barn for their estate in Tuckombil, located west of Ballina in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. After careful planning and design, we got to work meticulously handcrafting each and every joint and detail for this massive timber frame.
Beginning in September 2019 and being completed in mid-2020, this project was one for the history books here at Traditional Timber Frames as one of our largest projects undertaken to date. By the end of this project, our tally came to approximately 24 cubic metres of locally sourced, sustainable Australian hardwood needed to create these expansive frames, spanning the 24-metre by 13-metre dimensions of the barn.
Curved braces were milled to mirror the natural curves of the specially selected timber stock. The 24.5-metre top plate that formed the spine of the barn was handcrafted from 6 individual pieces of timber and masterfully joined using strong traditional joints by our skilled craftsmen.
This project was designed to include stables, a workshop space, machinery storage, and to be able to function as an events space, making it the ultimate all-in-one barn space that needed to look as stunning as it was functional.
Representing a premium selection of joinery and Australian hardwoods, the barn was finished with intricate details such as timber windows and doors, copper light fixtures, and a range of aesthetic elements to bring this timeless beauty together.
The completed project showcases thoughtful design, premium materials, and specialised attention to detail that raised the appeal, value, and overall aesthetic of this country estate to be one befitting of the luxury Byron Bay hinterland properties.
We must credit the barn designers, Evalock Mittagong, who supplied the windows and doors, and also Rob and Craig who carried out the general building work on-site in Tuckombil for the incredible end result.
