Timber Craft Beer Bar for a Historic Hotel

In 2016, the second oldest hotel in NSW – Picton’s George IV Inn, suffered extensive damage in a devastating flood. Part of the restoration work was the construction of a new boutique/craft beer bar to showcase a range of local brews and provide some lovely views over the temperamental Stonequarry Creek.

The architect, builder and hotels owners wanted to create a new area that not only did justice to the historic pub but also added character, history, style and a talking piece to the new bar area. Traditional Timber Frames were called in to design and construct a timber frame that fitted the desired look and with a brief to simultaneously complement and add to the history of one of the oldest buildings in NSW.

The design of the structure was undertaken by our in-house design team along with conceptional drawings for approval and engineering approvals. After sourcing the timber, all the joinery work and finishing was undertaken in our workshop and delivered to the site. Our team completed the assembly on-site, ready for the other trades to complete the fit-out.

The results are a stunning indoor/outdoor space that allows the hotel’s patrons to escape the elements while maximising the views of the beautiful surroundings. The blend of heavy timbers and corrugated iron roofing is quintessentially Australian with the structure effortlessly finding itself at home amongst its historic surroundings.
