Arcadia House
In 2015, Traditional Timber Frames undertook a project to add an extension to a federation era cottage home in Arcadia, NSW. It involved the design and creation of a full timber framed addition, with a soaring raked ceiling revealing beautiful exposed trusses with gently curved featured elements.
As you can see from the photos the results were stunning! The new extension rejuvenated this historic home while maintaining its aesthetic, opening up the living space and letting in light to what would have been quite a dark original building.
We worked closely with our clients Jamie and Sophie, along with their architect Rolfe to create a design that reminded them of their oak framed home in England internally, but tied seamlessly with the federation cottage externally. AJ Bristow and Sons managed the build and we installed the blackbutt timber frames over a couple of days with a local crane operator.
The house was sold not long after the project was completed when the clients decided to move home to England. The property sold for considerably more than the purchase price and costs involved in the renovation and extension, providing a true reflection on the value impact the investment of a stunning traditional timber frame can have on a building.
