Bungonia Chapel

Bungonia Chapel

This unique project was commissioned in 2019 by a family who wanted a building that reminded them, and future generations, of their local village in Italy. The family estate in Bungonia is covered with olive groves and a large homestead, and the brief was to create a small, traditional styled chapel on the estate for all the family to enjoy.
It was important that the chapel be built in such a way that it could authentically replicate, and pay homage to the original in the client’s hometown. Working from a photo of the stunning old Italian church that was the inspiration for the build, we designed a beautiful, Spotted Gum roof, with King Post Trusses and a hardwood lined ceiling
The timber trusses were constructed in our workshop, oiled and finished to the desired dressed look, and then craned into place. The client’s business is in commercial construction, so the structural concrete walls and building structure were all a major part of creating a building that will truly stand as a testament and legacy to craftsmanship for the next 1000 years.
