Tamborine Mountain Barn
Nestled within the picturesque surrounds of Tamborine Mountain, this bespoke hardwood barn was designed and handcrafted as a striking extension of a beautifully renovated European-inspired estate. Created for private clients Paul and Michelle, the barn blends timeless craftsmanship with architectural elegance to create a space that feels equally at home as part of an English countryside estate or a high-end American ranch.
Completed in September 2025 in collaboration with Brisbane builders Dorset Bottega, this handcrafted timber frame project showcases the beauty, strength and enduring character of traditional post and beam construction.
The Brief
Having recently renovated their home in a distinctly European style, the clients wanted a barn that would complement the character and scale of the property. The vision was clear, a handcrafted hardwood structure with steep roof pitches and generous proportions that would sit naturally within the landscape while making a statement of its own
The design called for a substantial 30-metre-long building, carefully proportioned to suit the property and inspired by the timeless form of a traditional English barn. A key requirement was the inclusion of large curved hardwood braces to create softness, movement and visual impact throughout the structure.
Design & Craftsmanship
Constructed using premium, locally sourced Australian hardwoods, every element of the timber frame was meticulously handcrafted in our workshop using traditional hand-scribed techniques.
To achieve the sweeping curves that define the barn’s character, specially selected curved timber slabs were sourced for the brace members, an approach that required both patience and precision to ensure each piece sat perfectly within the frame.
Once complete, the structure was transported to site across two semi-trailers and erected over a two-week period, before being completed alongside Adam and the team at Dorset Bottega.
The End Result
The finished barn is a magnificent example of bespoke timber craftsmanship, balancing the grandeur of a European estate with the warmth and scale of a luxury American barn.
Defined by dramatic rooflines, handcrafted joinery and beautifully expressed curved hardwood bracing, the building feels both substantial and refined. More than just a functional structure, it stands as a centrepiece of the property and a testament to the enduring beauty of traditional timber framing.
