This unique project was designed and built for our client Ben and his young family. What made this project particularly special is that the timber used was sourced and milled locally by Ben through his arborist business.
The timber, a mix of Blackbutt and other Australian east coast hardwoods, was delivered to our workshop. We carefully scribed and cut the custom curved components to match the form and beauty of the natural timber. The frame was manufactured using only traditional joinery techniques to ensure its strength, durability and visual appeal.
The building will be used as a studio and fits beautifully into the natural Helensburgh bush setting. We designed a custom timber frame that embraced the natural features of the timber, incorporating a nicely shaped dormer window, sling braces, and a 1st floor. The rough sawn timbers lend a rustic aesthetic to the framing. With many of the natural curves and raw edges preserved, the result is a beautiful, natural and curvy piece of craftsmanship.
The frame was craned into place on a rainy day in 2019 and fixed to concrete footings. The remainder of the building works were left to Ben and his builders. We look forward to seeing the finished product and will bring some finished photos of the build to you soon.
